Female and male reproduction

Abstract An understanding of the functional morphology of the bowhead whale continues to have significance for population management. This chapter first examines the anatomical features of the bowhead whale reproductive system, with an emphasis on the female. This is followed by a consideration of the functional parameters of the female reproductive cycle, testicular function in the male, and the age at sexual maturity in both sexes.
