Electromagnetic and Flow Field Analysis of Multi-DOF Motor With Air Bearing Structure

Due to the traditional multi-DOF motor active joint using the traditional joint ball bearing, it often has friction loss and mechanical contact force and cause low output accuracy. In this paper, an air-floating multi-DOF motor (AMM) supports the rotor with the compressed gas. Firstly, the FEM is adopted to conduct electromagnetic analysis on AMM to obtain the magnetic field distribution of the motor. Then, according to the gas lubrication theory, the flow field is numerically analyzed. The finite element software is also used to simulate the air flow in the air film flow field between the stator and the rotor. Finally, the experimental platform of AMM was established, and the vibration curve of the rotor during the movement was obtained. The experimental results prove the validity of special design requirements of the motor.
