Oral cancer recurrence is still the recent problem, despite all the modern advances in chemotherapy, surgery, and radiation therapy. The aim of our study is to improve the treatment results of patients with recurrent squamous cell carcinoma of the oral mucosa by developing a surgical strategy in determining prognosis factors, extent of operation, and resectability criteria. Our study included 34 patients (23 men and 11 women) with recurrent oral cancer. Previously, these patients received various types of antineoplastic therapy in other medical centers: systemic therapy - 12%, combined treatment (surgery and radiation therapy) - 5%, radiation therapy alone - 21%, chemoradiation - 24%, complex treatment - 35%. The shortest relapse-free period was observed in patients who received radiation therapy alone, and the longest in those who received complex treatment. All of 34 patients with recurrent oral cancer underwent surgical treatment. Two-year overall survival was achieved for 10 patients (29%). Nine patients had no regional metastases (N0), one corresponded to the N1 symbol.
