Editor-in-Chief Applicants

2006
THE IEEE COMPUTER SOCIETY seeks nominations and applications for the volunteer position of the editor in chief (EIC) of IEEE Computer Graphics and Applications magazine. CG&A bridges the theory and practice of computer graphics. From specific algorithms to full system implementations, CG&A offers a unique combination of peer-reviewed feature articles and informal departments, including Tools and Products. Special applications sidebars relate research stories to commercial development. A cover story focuses on creative applications of the technology by an artist or designer. And graphics all-star Jim Blinn offers insight and wit in his popular column. Published six times a year, CG&A is indispensable reading for people working at the leading edge of computer graphics technology and its applications in everything from business to the arts. The EIC is appointed by the president of the IEEE Computer Society for a two-year term, upon the consent of the society’s Board of Governors and based on recommendations from the search committee and the Publications Board. The EIC is responsible for the volunteer leadership of CG&A including coordinating and overseeing the peer-review process, recommending candidates for the editorial board, chairing the editorial board, developing budgets and plans for the publication, serving as a nonvoting, ex-officio member of the Publications Board, and working in general with volunteer and staff to ensure and maintain the timely publication of an exceptionally highquality magazine. Applications and nominations should include a complete curriculum vita, a brief plan for the future of CG&A, and a letter of support to undertake the EIC position from the candidate’s institution or employer. The plan should include (1) the candidates’ perspective on the challenges and opportunities facing CG&A, (2) the expected tasks to be undertaken if appointed as EIC, (3) the objective milestones associated with each task, (4) a proposed schedule for the tasks and the milestones, (5) the projected organization needed to accomplish the tasks, and (6) any funding requirements needed to accomplish the tasks. The preferred form of the submission is electronic using Microsoft Word or portable document format (PDF). Please direct all questions and submit all completed nominations and applications to
