Some Aspects of System Analysis and System Design

1989
Constructing an information system is more than just designing a database and programming the desired functionality of data manipulation. Many automation projects eventually have created more problems than they have solved, due to a lack of understanding of the organization in which the ssytem should operate. It is necessary to gather knowledge about the operational process of the organization and study how information is used by individuals and in communication with other departments. Software systems increase in complexity and functionality. They are now an integrated part of the information handling of many organizations. From simple data processing systems which could be considered as the first generation systems we saw the introduction of the second generation, the so called MIS (Management Information Systems) and currently we live with the third generation the DSS (Decision Support Systems).
