Even without Hair: Alopecia and My Personal Journey toward Myself

2013
Living a lifetime with Alopecia, a disease that one has next to no control over in a society where the importance and value of appearance is grossly overemphasized, is enough to break anyone. Now in her thirties, the author shares a painful honest yet inspiring story about her emotional and psychological struggles as a child growing into a young adult with Alopecia.  Experimental drugs, failed treatments, social stigma, and difficulty in relationships created a challenging but beautiful path along which her love for life unfolded.  As she so succinctly states, “Your hair does NOT define you: you determine how you define you.”
