In-space operations

2021
Abstract CubeSat operations, sometimes referred to as mission phase E, cover the period of time from launch to the end of a mission. Successful operations begin with early planning and integration of operation tools and procedures into the integration and test (I&T) phase of development. The most exciting and perilous phase of operations is at the beginning: first contact and commissioning. It is during these early days that anomalies are most likely to rear their heads. Successfully navigating this period requires training and practice. Once the spacecraft has passed the commissioning phase, the focus of the prime mission is to accomplish the scientific and/or technical goals while maintaining a healthy and functioning spacecraft. If the mission is extended past the prime mission, the team may choose to further stretch the capabilities of the CubeSat or try new experiments beyond the original mission goals.
