Effectiveness of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) Program on Psychological Distress in Patients with Lupus

This study attempted to examine the effectiveness of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) program on stress, anxiety and depression of patients with lupus. The research design was quasi-experimental conducted as pretest-posttest and control group. The population included all patients with lupus in Bandar Abbas. The sample comprised a total of 30 patients with lupus who were selected using random sampling placed in two experimental and control groups. The data collection tools were depression, anxiety and stress (DASS_21). The subjects in the experimental group received the mindfulness-based stress reduction program, while the control group received no intervention. The results of covariance analysis showed that training through MBSR was significantly effective in reducing stress, anxiety, depression, lupus at 0.99. Therefore, the MBSR could be recommended for treating and alleviating psychological distress in patients. Keywords: Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), stress, anxiety, depression, lupus
