An overview of Chinese language support in ODF and OOXML document formats

2010
The ability to support different languages is reflected by the document information recording format. Chinese language support capabilities in the two major document format standards, ODF and OOXML, are well analyzed starting off Chinese language document information processing requirements. This research is focused on the following characteristics specific to Chinese document information processing: text direction, font, numbering, date and time expression, ruby, drop cap, typesetting rules as well as the grid setting, etc. This research is beneficial to the study of document information representation and sharing as well as document interoperability. It is also a good input to the Chinese national document format standard UOF.
