ELECTRO-OPTIC PHENOMENA IN ASYMMETRICALLY STRESSED LIQUID DIELECTRICS

In this investigation the phenomena of initiation of streamers from the point of discontinuities in dielectric liquid such as transformer oil have been studied. Optical techniques based on Schlieren imaging have been employed. Observations were made using a high speed photography with electronic triggering facility. Transformer oil is employed as a liquid dielectric in the present investigations which is widely used in electrical industry. Electro-optic effect observed provided valuable information as to the mechanism of streamer initiation.
