Research: Key area connectivity mapping a better way of measuring groundwater

2012
For some time Irrigation Australia journal has been following the work of MacLean-Iedema Award winner Ken Crawford. This work, which is based on a new approach to mapping groundwater, turns on its head traditional thinking about the connectivity between surface water and groundwater and poses questions about how sustainable diversion limits (SDLs) are used in developing models that are used for water planning in catchments in Australia, particularly in the Murray-Darling Basin. In this article, Ken describes a different way of looking at how surface and groundwater interact, and how this could be used by water policy makers and planners.
