The scientific work Dictionary the Geographic Names of Pinar del Rio is a result of a National Research Project lead by the Centre of Researches and Environmental Services, ECOVIDA in Pinar del Rio province, derived from the socio/economic, cultural and environmental need, expressed by diverse institutions. This effort embraces different sectors of the society what is a direction from the Council of Ministers, stating that every province count with a complete and updated record of geographic features as remarkable tool for the territorial recognition. The general objective is to complete, purging and ordering the knowledge of the geographical figures of the territory, regarding the location, distribution, category and history, what will have as a main goal the dictionary, containing an arranged and confronted of the geographic features of the province, using Page Maker with a total of 1 546 toponims categorized in family: litonims, hidronims, oronimos, econims, protected areas and odonims, fourteen maps to 1:25 000 scale, and 8 images. This is a tool for decision making process for environmental, economic, political and military purposes.
