Global trends in pharmacy practice

2021
Abstract The practice of pharmacy globally has evolved during the 21st century in response to the changing economic, political, and social environment. Using country examples, this chapter examines some of progress made in community pharmacy and particularly services that are being funded and delivered in prevention, risk assessment, screening, referral, disease management, and medicines optimization. Responding to the changing global landscape in health requires collective global action, although national policies are also important. Pharmacy is the third largest health workforce yet still not always remunerated as a health professional, although this has started to change in some countries. Countries need to learn from each other, cooperate, and innovate across sectors to develop shared solutions.
