The use of geographic information systems (GIS) appears as a useful tool to understand environmental changes, since it allows a fast, reliable and low-cost analysis through specialized image processing techniques. This article demonstrates the application of geoprocessing tools to identify basic characteristics related to coastal morphology. studies. The study area, the coastal plain of Balneario Picarras, presents problems associated with the processes of coastal erosion, which causes economic losses that constantly require the control of human interventions or mitigation of the associated damages. The transport of unconsolidated sediments causes changes at different geological time scales in a balance of natural and anthropogenic variables. The study area was limited to a polygon obtained from a satellite image (Quickmapservice / Google Satellite). The location of the elements and sampling points, with emphasis on the importance of inserting polygons and points, was performed using the Q-GIS 3.10 software. The vectorization and detailing of the images allowed to better recognize the aspects of the studied area, by the creation of different layers for the study of the morphology of the sandy strip of the central beach of Balneario Picarras. from predefined satellite images, using the base layer Google Quickmapservices available in Q-GIS 3.10. The resulting map produced serves as a basis for further studies and learning during the highlighted process area.
