Deformation potentials of the semimetal HgTe

The hydrostatic deformation potentials for the conductionand valence bands in a semiconductor, C and a, respectively,are important parameters; however, they cannot be directlydetermined experimentally. Their difference, C−a, can bedetermined from the hydrostatic pressure dependence of theband gap by means of excitonic absorption or photo-luminescence.
