The appliance has a tank in which water is boiled, and a container (4) placed proximate the bottom of the tank for recovery of scale particles. The container is introduced into the tank via an orifice formed on a side wall of the tank, where the container is engaged in the orifice through a terminal end of the container. The container includes a cavity (43) having an upper opening forming a passage by which scale particles are collected in the cavity, where the cross-section of the passage is reduced towards the terminal end of the container.
