Introduction to basic GIS and spatial analysis using QGIS: Applications in Bangladesh

2018
These data are to be used with the following book: Ahmed, Z.U., Krupnik, T.J., Kamal, M., 2018. Introduction to basic GIS and spatial analysis using QGIS: Applications in Bangladesh. Cereal Systems Initiative for South Asia (CSISA). International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center, CIMMYT. Dhaka, Bangladesh. This book provides a set of learning modules introducing young scientists and researchers to geographic information systems (GIS) and spatial analysis using the open-source QGIS platform, and complementary R, SAGA and GRASS platforms. The modules can be used for self-directed learning or to teach courses. Practical exercises that utilize spatial data for Bangladesh are included, and all required spatial data can be downloaded from an open-source website. The modules provide an overview of GIS, spatial data visualization techniques, and exercises in working with global positioning system, tabular, and raster data. Students will also learn terrain and spatial analysis, and also how to do georeferencing with Google Earth and to develop new vector datasets. Exercises on how to produce aesthetically pleasing, data rich, and informative maps are also included. By the time students complete working with these modules, they should be proficient in QGIS and spatial data analysis, and able to continue using these tools on an individual basis without considerable extra coaching.
