Voltage clamping balance with hysteresis charging/discharging approach

This paper proposes a voltage clamping balance (VCB) with hysteresis charging/discharging approach for series-connected batteries. The proposed method uses switches to regulate the charging/discharging energy without any magnetic components. The balancing mechanism activated after a battery terminal voltage reaches the rated voltage and charging /discharging the battery with hysteresis charging/discharging approach. Furthermore, the proposed method can be achieved without estimating the state of charge (SOC). In addition, discussions on VCB and real time balance (RTB) are presented. Hysteresis charging/discharging approach and system efficiency is also analyzed. Finally, a battery pack composed of six cell modules is test for the charging/discharging experiment.
