Experimental Studies on the Anti-inflammatory Activities of Ethanol Extract of Hemistepta lyrata Bunge.

2010
Objective To study the anti-inflammatory activities of the ethanol extract of Hemistepta lyrata Bunge. Methods The methods of xylene-induced ear edema in mice, granuloma induced with cotton ball in rats and hind paw edema induced with crystallite sodium urate in rats were used to observe the anti-inflammatory effects. The content of PGE2 was measured in hind paw edema induced with formaldehyde in mice. Results The ethanol extract of H.lyrata Bunge.could inhibit xylene-induced ear edema, granuloma induced with cotton ball and hind paw edema induced with crystallite sodium urate in rats, decrease the content of PGE2.Conclusion The ethanol extract of H.lyrata Bunge.has significant anti-inflammatory effects, which was related to its inhibitory effects on PGE2.
