Researchers Honored For Their Distinguished Bodies Of Work

The National Academy of Sciences 139th annual meeting held last week in Washington, D.C., was marked by the election of 72 new members, including 10 women, and 15 foreign associates from 12 countries. During the meeting, E. J. Corey, Sheldon Emory Professor of Organic Chemistry, Harvard, received the 2002 NAS Award in Chemical Sciences, consisting of a medal and prize of $20,000. In addition to being elected to membership in the academy, J. Craig Venter, scientific adviser to Celera Genomics, was presented with the $25,000 triennial NAS Award for the Industrial Application of Science.
