Synthesis, structural and photoluminescence properties of novel orange-red emitting Ba3Y2B6O15:Eu3+ phosphors
2019
Abstract Novel Ba 3 Y 2-x Eu x B 6 O 15 (0.1 ≤ x ≤ 1.0) orange-red emitting phosphors were synthesized by conventional high-temperature solid-state reaction method. The phase purity, crystal structure, morphology, photoluminescence properties, energy transfer mechanism between Eu 3+ ions and lifetime were investigated in detail. The as-synthesized Ba 3 Y 2-x Eu x B 6 O 15 phosphors can be efficiently excited by near-ultraviolet (near-UV) at 393 nm and exhibited an excellent orange-red emission centered at 593 nm corresponding to the 5 D 0 → 7 F 1 transition of Eu 3+ ions. The result of Eu 3+ concentration on the PL intensity of Ba 3 Y 2-x Eu x B 6 O 15 phosphors was investigated and the optimum concentration was obtained to be x = 0.7. The critical distance of Eu 3+ ions was obtained to be 9.98 A and the non-radiative energy transfer among the Eu 3+ ions was dominated by the dipole-dipole interaction. The Commission International de I'Eclairage (CIE) chromaticity coordinates of Ba 3 Y 1.3 Eu 0.7 B 6 O 15 were (x = 0.601, y = 0.396). According to the temperature dependent emission spectra, the better thermal stability of Ba 3 Y 1.3 Eu 0.7 B 6 O 15 phosphor was also determined. All the results suggested that the examined Ba 3 Y 2-x Eu x B 6 O 15 could be potential orange-red phosphors for white light emitting diodes.
