An Assessment of the Substance Losses from Charge Composition Used to the Steelmaking – Key Factor for Sustainable Steel Manufacturing

2019
Abstract The paper presents an assessment of the substance losses from charge composition used to the steelmaking in the electric arc furnaces. The assessment of substance losses is of significant importance in determining the potential pollution degree of the air environmental factor to the steelmaking in the electric arc furnaces. In this sense, were made nine charges recipes, which contain: scrap iron contaminated with vaseline, scrap iron (painted sheet, rusty iron, zinc coated sheet, nickel coated sheet, chromed sheet, clean steel), first fusion pig iron, plastic materials, electrodes scrap, lime (calcium oxide), fluorine (calcium fluoride) in varying percentages. The substances losses were assessed during the melting technological stage. According to the results obtained, the losses of the substance, from the composition of the charge, depend on the degree of impurity of the charge components.
