The recordings on side one, were made while the Duke was appearing at The Cotton Club, 142 and Lennox Avenues in Harlem, and the year was 1937, March 18th, to be exact. The recordings on Side Two, were done at The Southland, a popular night spot in Boston, Massachusetts on September 1, 1940.
