Fabrication and characterization of pure porous Ti3SiC2 with controlled porosity and pore features

Abstract Pure porous Ti 3 SiC 2 with controlled porosity and pore features were prepared by using elemental powders with NaCl as pore-forming agent. Influences of NaCl content and particle size on porosity, purity and mechanical properties of the prepared porous Ti 3 SiC 2 were studied. Results revealed that Ti 3 SiC 2 samples with purity of 97.8% and porosity of 75% can be achieved. The prepared porous Ti 3 SiC 2 samples have good pore connectivity, uniform pore size and pore distribution. The stress–strain curves of the prepared samples showed a typical brittle fracture of ceramic foam.
