Elemental chlorine free bleach plant effluent management in a volatilizing fluidized bed

Incineration of bleach plant effluent permits the advantages of ECF bleaching to be maintained while meeting environmental standards. Technology using vapour recompression for the concentration of bleach plant effluents has been proven at mill scale. A method is proposed for the combustion of bleach and oxygen delignification plant effluents in a fluidized bed of ferric oxide which would avoid the problems of conversion and loss of capacity for a recovery boiler and simplify the extraction of the sodium chloride from the system.
