Numerical studies of the flow over a circular cylinder at Reynolds number 3900 with overset mesh

Under the typical subcritical Reynolds number, the RANS method based on the standard k-e low Reynolds number model is used with overset grid and structured grid. The three-dimensional numerical simulation of the flow over a cylinder is carried out under uniform flow. The paper analyzes the flow field structure in the wake area and gives the characteristics of the average flow field. The lift coefficient, drag coefficient and Strouhal number compare with experiment data to verify the accuracy and rationality of the method. It shows that the numerical simulation results of the overset grid are more consistent with the experiment data than the structured grid.
