An Approach for Mental Preparation for First-Year College Students: A Case Study of Engineering Students

2020
As first-year university students prepare to head to classes, many of them are worrying about how they will handle new responsibilities and workloads. Often, they fail to prioritize their learning needs due to anxiety. Hence, this paper presents a case study to illustrate a mindfulness meditative approach for helping electrical and computer engineering students to alleviate their anxiety during transition from high school to college. A sample of 44 first-year students at Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Thammasat University, voluntarily completed questionnaire after participating mindfulness training exercise. The survey results indicate their good satisfactions.
