Damping Inter-Area Oscillations Via Weighted Area Signals to PSSs Using TLBO & HS Algorithm
2019
This paper discusses damping power systems interarea oscillations through using weighted signals to be an input to machines Power System Stabilizers (PSSs) instead of using local speed signals (conventional method). The area signals are nothing, but the speed signals of different machines weighted and combined to feed all area generators. The weights of the combined signals and the time constants of the local plant PSSs (Lead Lag design) are optimized using two optimization techniques, specifically Harmony Search (HS) algorithm and Teaching Learned Based Optimization (TLBO) technique. The results obtained using each of the aforementioned techniques are then compared to the conventional method results. The Case study discussed is Kundur’s two area, four machine system. Results are provided in the form of time domain simulation via MATLAB/SIMULINK
