Study on RF Safety Exposures around Base Stations over Kathmandu Valley

2010
The essence and the use of Radio Frequency (RF) and microwaves appliances are being increased tremendously. A number of researches so far alarm that the exposure to excessive RF and microwaves radiation is virulent to public hazards and health. In Nepal any guidelines have never been taken care so far. Taking note of this fact, this study examines radiation safety exposures around mobile phone base stations over some pocket areas of Katmandu valley. The study has two folds: a) theoretical simulation of radiation fields and b) RF field observations/intensity mappings. Numerical calculations are used to examine the radiation patterns given by the manufacturing company and established by concerned authority. calculated estimates are then examined through field observations. Overall results are then verified with RF safety standards issued by various standardizing institutions. As a preliminary result, a few stations we have observed till date are found to be within safety limits. However, more observations are on the way to come up with conclusive results by covering more areas especially of uncontrolled power-transmission.
