Drawing out of the fold: Battle of the superfold

2010
The French philosopher, Gilles Deleuze has made frequent use of diagrams to augment his writings. He has also offered an extended treatment of the concept of the diagram in Francis Bacon: The Logic of Sensation where he has argued that the diagram is less a means of representation, narration, or illustration, than an active mode of engagement with the creative foldings and unfoldings of thought. The diagram, he explains, creates a battle on the canvas where painting explodes in manual marks and a-signifying traits, likewise, the diagram can be seen as a manual aid to philosophical thought.
