PRESENCIA DEL MURCIÉLAGO RATONERO PARDO Myotis emarginatus (Geoffroy, 1806) (CHIROPTERA: VESPERTILIONIDAE) EN MALLORCA (ISLAS BALEARES)

2009
EnglishThe presence in the island of Mallorca of the Geoffroy’s bat (Myotis emarginatus) (Geoffroy, 1806) is reported for the first time from a single adult female. This bat was captured in an abandoned tunnel in Algaida. External measures, wing-punches for posterior DNA analyses and pictures were obtained to document the capture before releasing the bat in the same cavity. With this new record, a total of 18 bat species are at present reported from Mallorca Island. This finding clearly supports the necessity of increasing basic research to establish accurate check-lists of this group of mammals.
