Mobile Learning and Distance Education

The term mobile learning, or mlearning for short, is a form of distance education that became recognized as a subset of distance education during 2005. This chapter defines mobile learning, explores the theoretical foundations along with the affordances and challenges of mlearning. It concludes with some ideas about the future of mlearning, emphasizing that mlearning promotes learning as what the learner needs or wants, when they want it, and only in the amount that suits their desire.
