Search for the xi(2. 2) in anti pp formation

The results are reported of a search at the Brookhaven National Laboratory AGS for the xi(2.2) with a mass resolution of 3 MeV/c/sup 2/. Thirty-seven thousand events of the form anti pp ..-->.. K/sup +/K/sup -/ and two hundred thousand events of the form anti pp ..-->.. ..pi../sup +/..pi../sup -/ were studied in the incident momentum interval from 1.25 GeV/c to 1.56 GeV/c, corresponding to a mass interval of 110 MeV/c/sup 2/ about the reported xi mass.
