Liquid crystal state of cellulose

Abstract The feasibility of obtaining cellulose in the liquid crystal state from its original amorphous state is discussed. The phase states of cellulose were studied by means of X-ray diffraction and pyrometric methods, and also by spin probe ESR spectroscopy. The critical concentration for the transition of cellulose into the liquid crystal state is evaluated.
