Cutoff Waveguide Applicators for Hyperthermia Cancer Treatment

1991
The basic theory and the development of evanescent mode waveguide hyperthermia applicators is described. Distributions of specific absorption rates (SAR) on phantoms are presented and discussed. Original applicators of this type are used in a clinical hyperthermia apparatus at the Radiotherapeutical Institute of Prague, and were found to be effective in the hyperthermia treatment of superficial and subcutaneous tumors.
