Composition modification for tuning the luminescent property in Sr19(Mg,Mn)2(PO4)14: Eu2+ phosphors

2021
Abstract Different crystallographic sites occupation has significant influence on the luminescent characteristics of the Eu2+ and Mn2+ activated phosphors. In this study, in order to have an in-depth research on basic photoluminescence mechanism, a compositional modification for luminescent tuning and enhancement in whitlockite-structural phosphor Sr19(Mg1-xMnx)2(PO4)14: Eu2+ is applied. The result shows that both Eu2+/Mn2+ site-occupancy and Eu2+-Mn2+ energy transfer could be tuned by changing Eu2+/Mn2+ content in Sr19(Mg1-xMnx)2(PO4)14. Owing to this, the emission variation from Eu2+ orange through Mn2+ red to double blue-red bands is simultaneously observed upon ultraviolet light excitation. Meanwhile, the optical spectroscopy property, decay and thermal quenching behavior as well as related mechanism of optimal Sr19(Mg1-xMnx)2(PO4)14: Eu2+ are studied in detail.
