Percepções e informações das mães sobre a cirurgia de seus filhos

This article aims to present a study that assessed the perceptions of mothers and information on the surgery of their children. The research was conducted with 30 participants, accompanying persons of children aged between 6 and 12 years, hospitalized in a children’s hospital for performing elective surgery of small size. The surgical procedures were inguinal and umbilical hernia, tonsillectomy, adenoidectomy, and circumcision. It was used an interview with the escort before surgery, and any type of preparation. The results show that the lack of information creates in the mothers fear, and stress and anxiety, as indicative that there was considerable on these occurrences. The practical implications of the results of this study underline the importance of preparing the child and family for the different stages of a surgical procedure, ranging from the decision to do the surgery until the results after its preparation.
