An optimized electrotherapy device for overactive bladder treatment

2017
An efficient, size optimized, flexible electrotherapy device is presented. Without sacrificing energy efficiency, the presented device allows customization and flexibility for electrotherapy users. It is intended to enhance urinary functions by treating bladder disorders as the target application, through the sciatic nerve. Common architectures of electrotherapy systems are reviewed and compared in order to find the best compromise dealing with power efficiency, flexible parameters and device size requirements. New circuit techniques are used to design and implement the optimized architecture, altogether with the design procedure to meet requirements. We applied concepts of SMPS and transformer design for further optimization. Reported experimental results show that a maximum voltage of 150 V and maximum current of 100 mA are delivered by the achieved device.
