High quantum efficiency, low emittance electron beam from multifilamentary cathodes

We present a new type of metallic cathode, reaching quantum efficiency of 10 3 . This value together with the estimated emittance, gives a brilliance of 2.8×10 13 A/m 2 , making this cathode an excellent candidate for an ultrashort electron source.
