A New InversionTechniqueforApparent Resistivity Measurements

1987
A newalgorithm forinterpreting apparent earth resistiv- itydataobtained fromdepth sounding measurements ispresented. The methodisbased onfitting thedatatoanNlayer earth modelwithequal layer heights hwherehisequal totherequired depth resolution. The spectral reflection coefficient attheearth's surface forthemodelused isderived asaratio oftwopolynomials, thecoefficients ofwhicharea function oftheresistivity ratios ofadjacent layers. Thisprovides the theoretical basis forinferring themodelparameters. Measures forim- proving numerical stability aresuggested andapplied toafewexam- ples. Results showthat thepresent algorithm ismostsuited forcontin- uously varying resistivity depthprofiles.
