During the last ten to fifteen years the concepts of improving environmental quality in cities and environmental information systems have gained increasing significance (Bocker 1994, Furst et al. 1996, Sukopp and Wittig 1993). How these two concepts relate to one another is, however, seldom discussed in detail.
