RECENT DEVELOPMENTS IN A CAE SYSTEM FOR THE DESIGN OF FLOATING OFFSHORE UNITS

A total computer aided engineering (CAE) system developed by Gusto Engineering C.V. is described. The system combines programmes for hydrostatics, hydrodynamics, strength, etc. offering the user the possibility of making iterations in the design in a very simple manner and reducing the possibility of making errors in the input of the programmes. Further advantages are the reduction of the total time required for a design and better adjustment of the different sub-designs. The total CAE and its sub-systems are outlined and an example of application of the CAE system is worked out for a simple semisubmersible design.
