Pressure effect on the specific heat and electrical resistance in the Ce(Ru0.6Rh0.4)2Si2 compound

2002
Abstract The effect of pressure on the non-Fermi liquid behavior in the Ce(Ru 1− x Rh x ) 2 Si 2 system has been investigated for the first time. Studies were carried out by means of measuring the specific heat and the electrical resistance for x =0.4. Results showed that the resistance R ( T ) followed a power law with temperature T : R(T)−R(0)∼T α , between 2 and 10 K . The factor α increased almost linearly from 0.55 to 1.58 with increasing pressure from the ambient pressure to 2.0 GPa . At low pressure ( P=0.9 GPa ), the specific heat divided by temperature, C ( T )/ T , has a logarithmic relation with T : C/T∼−k ln (T/T 0 ) ; at high pressure ( P=1.1 GPa ), the C / T value has little change with decreasing temperature. It suggested that the non-Fermi liquid behavior was suppressed by the application of pressure.
