A Usability Testing Comparing Two Mobile Phone Gimbals

2020
In this study, we compared two Mobile Phone Gimbals from DJI and MOZA to investigate usability issues and access which product has better usability and provide iterative recommendations for Mobile Phone Gimbal. The study was conducted from May to June 2019 based on the principle of effectiveness, efficiency and satisfaction in ISO 9241-11 [1]. Then the usability test was carried out in three parts: task design, test exclusion and data statistic. 6 subjects were asked to complete five tasks with two gimbals following the principle of think aloud protocols and given a short interview to measure their satisfaction. Results indicate that there is a usability issue of installing and balancing in novice users in both products. OSMO has simple buttons, which is easier for the novice, but users have to tap the screen of mobile phone to complete some tasks. On the contrary, MOZA enables users to operate with single hand all the time by more buttons, but it is too complicated for the novice.
