Study of measured spacecraft electrons with the aim of producing reliable spacecraft potential estimates from PEACE spectra

2010
Estimating the spacecraft potential is important in order to obtain accurate moments, such as the electron density. On Cluster we have EFW potential measurements available but on Double Star there is no instrument dedicated to potential measurements. Hence, we developed spacecraft estimation methods that use Cluster PEACE data and have tried to validate them by comparing our estimates with potential estimated from EFW data. This raises the question of how to determine spacecraft potential from EFW data. The final aim is to use the most successful method to produce Double Star potential estimates based on Double Star PEACE data. This will lead to better Double Star moments
