Study on microsporogenesis and male gametophyte development of local Areca cathecu in Hainan.

The microspore meiosis and male gametophyte development of local Areca cathecu Linnaeus in Hainan were studied with conventional squash method,and the correlation between the developmental stage of microspore and the external morphological characteristics of the inflorescence was analyzed.The results showed that the cytokinesis of microspore mother cells during meiosis belonged to simultaneous type,the microspores were almost tetrahedral-type ones,and the mature pollen grains were 2-cell type.There was a certain corresponding relationship between the external shape and internal structure of inflorescence.
