Functional ability and quality of life of below knee amputees with prosthesis

Objectives: To find the functional ability and quality of life of below knee amputees with the use of prosthesis. Methodology: This observational cross sectional survey included 300 below knee amputees. WHOQOL-Brief having 26 questions and K-classification to assess functional level were used. Most of the questionnaires were filled in person, while others were sent and received through email and social networking site and some of them were filled via phone call. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 20. Results: Quality of life (QOL) was overall decreased. It was above average for physical, social and environmental domains while above average to excellent for psychological domain. Most of them had K3 functional level, which indicates that they were able to perform their day to day activities including social activities. Conclusion: Majority of amputees could perform their day to day activities with some constraints and they had above average quality of life.
