Rumor transmission on homogeneous networks with both oblivion-recall and loss-interest mechanisms

2019
In this paper, the reality of people’s forgetting and losing interest in the process of rumor spreading are considered. We introduce both the oblivion-recall mechanism and the loss-interest mechanism to propose a novel susceptible-infected-removed (SIR) model. In the present SIR model, we regard the forgetting as an independent state type of the population, and use the forgetting factor and the recall factor to characterize the oblivion-recall mechanism. The relationship between these two factors and the propagation critical threshold is investigated by means of stable state analysis. It shows that there is a linear proportional relationship between the forgetting factor and the propagation critical threshold. So it can be concluded that the existence of oblivion-recall mechanism reduces the outbreak probability of rumors.
