Training Evaluation of Virtual Environments

2017
Training programs are often not directly tied to job performance requirements as comprehensive needs analyses are rarely done. Before designing and evaluating a training solution, it is essential to conduct a training needs analysis (TNA). TNA is a process of gathering and interpreting data from the target training community and operational environment in an effort to identify performance gaps and formulate training solutions. There are several methods for conducting a TNA. Taken together, these methods aim to define what is to be accomplished with the envisioned training solution, expressed in terms of desired performance outcomes. The methods include: background information, subject matter experts (SMEs) interviews, task analysis, questionnaires, and focus groups. For any training program, it is essential to ensure that the most cost-effective training solution is achieved, in terms of both economic impact and impact on training effectiveness and ultimately operational readiness.
