Quality online/digital learning: ensure academic integrity through authentic assessments and student engagement

2021
As we continue to cope with the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic while pondering the after mass and long-term implications for all sectors of society, the global education community faces the persistent challenges in transitioning from emergency remote instruction to quality online education and digital learning. As more and more institutions are developing short and long term strategic plans for online and digital learning, many are already committed to expanding online and blended offerings, while selectively opening certain class sessions for more hands-on learning with feasible safety measures in place to protect students, faculty as well as staff, quality in curriculum, reputation of online offerings, as well as student support services emerge or continue to be, rightfully so, the focus and priority of all stakeholders, particularly issues relating to student engagement, assessments and how to ensure academic integrity in the digital environment. This session will inspire participants to explore ways to ensure quality online education and digital learning through assessment and engagement strategies. The presenters will share best practices on how to apply the principle of alignment in rethinking, redesigning or improving assessments in order to provide opportunities for interactions, facilitate active learning, engage students, and help them succeed in the online and digital learning environments. Participants will come away with some research-supported course design standards, useful tools and resources for authentic assessments to support their continued efforts to engage students, ensure academic integrity, and provide quality learning-centered environments to help students succeed in achieving desired learning outcomes.
